Arrival options

Automobile:

Traveling by car is the most common method. You can only get to the island by ferry from the port in Holwerd. Address: Grândyk 2b9151 AE Holwerd
Here you have the option of either leaving your car at the port for a fee or taking it with you to the island. If you decide to take the car with you, we recommend that you reserve a place for your car on the ferry, especially in the summer months, as only a limited number of places (approx. 72 cars) are available on the ferry .

Public (bus and train):

If you want to travel publicly, we recommend booking a train to Leeuwarden. There you can take a 66 bus straight away, which will bring you to the port of Holwerd without changing (travel time approx. 1 hour). When planning, it is best to always take into account the ferry times of the boats so that you can reach a boat safely. At the port of Ameland you can either take the 130 bus to Ballum, or take a taxi. When the ferry arrives, they always wait for the passengers on site. For the more active, there is also the option of renting a bike immediately upon arrival.

Plane:
